Here’s how the kitchen looked before – dark, damp and, errgh, a nice old mattress stacked up against the cooking range. When the small partition from the hallway came down, it let in more light. The freshly plastered walls were clean and fresh. I liked the little feature staircase up to the bedroom – I had the carpenter fix new steps before painting them.
My aunt was throwing out her old kitchen cupboards, so I sanded them down and painted them up – everything on a budget, of course. Ideally, I would have liked to have kept the cooking range where the original had been – but again, time and money constraints didn’t allow me to indulge!
